INDOOR AIR QUALITY Indoor air pollution is ranked one of the top five environmental threats to public health by the US Environmental Protection Agency (US EPA). The chemicals used in the construction of our buildings, our cleaning products and furniture can build up in our buildings and create an indoor air pollution problem. When combined with our drive toward more energy efficient buildings we have made our buildings "tighter". This means that indoor air pollutants can build up and cause problems for its occupants. Indoor air pollution can take many forms: irritants, odors, particulates (dust, pollen, etc) and biological contaminants (mold, pet dander, etc). Some people will have allergic responses, others may react with sore throats, runny noses while still others may not experience any adverse reactions to indoor air pollution. Many buildings that have occupants who have upper respiratory issues like asthma, allergies or more serious issues like emphysema, COPD or Alpha-1. These "at-risk" individuals are very sensitive to indoor air quality. The first step in creating a healthy indoor environment is to identify any issues or conditions that may cause poor indoor air quality. Envergent has developed techniques and processes to evaluate indoor air quality. These are efficient and inexpensive.
